Publications and website officer for a multidisciplinary learned society
The Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) required a skilled designer and communicator to step into a multifaceted role covering maternity leave. The position of Publications and Website Officer needed someone who could quickly grasp the society’s technical language, structure, and wide-reaching network. The role involved managing regular publication design, maintaining the society’s web presence, and delivering high-quality promotional materials across various platforms and formats.
With little onboarding time, I hit the ground running — learning the specialist terms and familiarising myself with the society’s global activities and membership network.
My work included:
– Design and layout of Big Blue World, SUT’s flagship magazine, ensuring a professional, engaging, and on-brand publication each issue.
– Annual Report production, combining editorial content, financials, and infographics into a clean, readable format.
– Advertising and event promotion, designing eye-catching digital and print materials for training courses, webinars, and global conferences.
– Event stand graphics, creating professional display materials that reinforced the SUT brand and enhanced their presence at industry events.
– Website updates and management, ensuring all news, events, and publications were up-to-date and accessible to the global membership.
The Society benefited from seamless creative continuity during the maternity cover period.
My ability to integrate quickly and work independently has allowed the SUT to continue engaging its members and promoting events without interruption. The Big Blue World magazine and marketing materials continue to reflect the society’s status as a respected global voice in underwater technology.
