Brand management for Denmark’s leading model train manufacturer
Heljan, a prominent train manufacturer and supplier, struggled to stand out at exhibitions. Despite producing excellent models and having an exciting vision for the future, they felt overshadowed by competitors. Their visual branding did not reflect the quality and innovation of their products. The first step in their rebranding journey was to create a catalogue that showcased their models and upcoming launches.
Heljan sought a modern approach to their visual branding. After discussing their ideas, we developed two design styles for their catalogue. They quickly chose the one that resonated most with them, requiring only minor adjustments. We also introduced pictograms to clearly communicate the features of each model, enhancing customer understanding.
To make their catalogue cover unique, we used a coloured technical drawing of a new model, split between the front and back covers. This design not only distinguished their catalogue from others in the industry but also highlighted the high standards of their design and manufacturing processes.
Once the electronic proofs were approved, the catalogues were printed and dispatched to three different destinations ready for distribution.
Heljan launched their new catalogue at one of the UK’s largest model train events, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Competitors even inquired about the creator of the catalogue. The success was reflected in their sales, prompting Heljan to produce a new catalogue annually.
Since then, Heljan has continued to use Squark’s brand management services, including print advertising campaigns, posters, catalogues, website visuals, and exhibition stands. By incorporating the catalogue style across their entire brand, Heljan transformed their presence at events, ensuring they no longer felt small and ignored.
Heljan now collaborates with Squark Design monthly for ongoing brand management, allowing them to attract their ideal customers while freeing up their staff to focus on other business areas.
